Local police in Fujian Province confiscated a total of 1,500 kg of ephedrine, the raw material used in the production of crystal methamphetamine, commonly-known as "ice".
To date, four suspects, who attempted to smuggle the ephedrine out of the country, have been arrested. Thirty thousand yuan (US$3,614) was also confiscated from the smugglers, sources from the provincial public security departments revealed.
The case is the largest of its kind ever reported in this eastern China province, police sources said.
The trafficking of ephedrine abroad is banned in China, according to relevant laws and regulations on drug smuggling.
