Police in Shanghai yesterday doubled the reward for information leading to the man responsible for an August bank robbery from 50,000 yuan (US$ 6,024) to 100,000 yuan (US$12,048).
Police said the robbery occurred at 12:30 p.m. on August 1 on Yinghang Road in Yangpu District.
After viewing video tape from a security camera in the bank, the police concluded the robber was a 1.8 meter tall, 30-year-old man, and that he probably acted alone.
Police say the man, who was wearing a white T-shirt and sunglasses, made off with 100,000 yuan.
Police have only made a few seconds of the video tape public, and won't say how the robbery was committed or if the thief was carrying a weapon.
Despite the four-month lapse since the crime, police seem to be optimistic that they will catch the robber, going so far as to promise they will have the suspect in custody as quickly as possible.
Shanghai police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to stop by their local police station or call them at 110.
