A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has urged media and cultural departments to intensify ideological work in order to implement the spirit of the 16th CPC congress and rally the people around the CPC.
Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, inspected a number of media and cultural institutions including Xinhua News Agency, the People's Daily, China International Publishing Group (China Internet Information Center), the China Daily, the National Library of China and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He held discussions with editors and staff.
Addressing editors and staff, he stressed that the Chinese media must adhere to the 16th party congress guidelines and mobilize people to safeguard China's stability and solidarity. The media must also create a favorable social atmosphere for the country's development. The media should help people to gain a correct understanding of China's current situation, and should reflect popular sentiment.
Li said that the basis for the promotion of advanced culture is the development of cultural industries, which should take place in accordance with socialist ethics and with the requirements of the market economy.
Li noted that media and ideological work are very important components of the party's work as a whole. He urged party officials to attach great importance to such work.
