More than 600 locals seriously injured in the earthquake that jolted Jiashi and Bachu counties in western Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Monday morning have been hospitalized for medical treatment.
According to Zhang Penglei, deputy director of the Kashi prefectural public health bureau, a team of over 300 doctors and nurses was organized immediately to treat and caretake the quake victims.
To date, the affected area has benefited from donated medical supplies valued at 400,000 yuan (US$48,400), Zhang said.
Participants in the on-going third session of the 10th autonomous regional committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) contributed generously to the disaster-afflicted areas, donating nearly 3.76 million yuan (US$454,700) Tuesday afternoon.
Representative of many private firms and enterprises made handsome donations through their local CPPCC committees. The Xinjiang Delong Group set up a 2 million yuan (US$242,000) relief fund. Meanwhile, the Xinjiang Hualing Group and the Guanghui Group contributed 500,000 yuan (US$60,460) each.
