The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government Tuesday welcomes Malaysia' s lifting of the travel restrictions on Hong Kong residents.
The HKSAR government has received written notification from the Malaysian Consulate-General that the Malaysian government has decided to lift the travel restrictions imposed on travelers from Hong Kong, a HKSAR government spokesman said on Tuesday.
The consulate-general confirmed that the previous 30-day visa free arrangements for all HKSAR passport holders have been reinstated and that HKSAR passport holders are expected to undergo a health screening upon arrival in Malaysia.
The spokesman said, "The Malaysian government is satisfied with the measures taken by the HKSAR government to contain the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), especially the taking of body temperature on all departing passengers at the Hong Kong International Airport."
