Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo has stressed that steps need to be taken to perfect the monitoring and management system on safety in production to curb the occurrence of serious accidents.
Wu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remark at the first plenary meeting of the Committee for Safety in Production under the State Council, held in Beijing Thursday.
Wu, chairman of the committee, said "We should fully understand that the safety in production not only has a bearing on people's lives and property, but also plays a very important role in building a socialist market economic system, promoting the sound development of the national economy and maintaining social stability."
Wu pointed out, currently, the situation is still serious as major accidents occur sometimes.
Wu called on all localities and departments concerned to take responsibilities and work out plans as soon as possible to guarantee safety in production.
