Electronic Information Turned into China's No.1 Pillar Industry

Scale of China's electronic information industry has topped 1 trillion-yuan in year 2000 and become China's No.1 pillar industry in support of the national economy. China has moved to the world third place in electronic information industry.

China has witnessed a rapid growth in telecom industry. The total optical cable mileage across the country has reached 1.25 million km with telecom network scale jumping to the second place in the world. Total telephone users in China amount to 287 million, of which, fixed phone users number 167 million and the mobile phone users a total of 120.6 million, according to reports from China International Information Technology Exhibition Conference held September 4.

Ministry of Information Industry has decided to hold "China Information Technology Exhibition" every year in order to encourage renovation of China's information technology, speed up technology progress and promote the wide application of information technology in the field of national economy and social development. The first exhibition will be held in Beijing from December 13 to 16, 2001.
