A recent survey conducted by the Tianjin Municipal Statistics Bureau indicated that self- employed businessmen, private business owners and white-collar professionals are in the highest salary brackets in Tianjin, this north China port city.
The average monthly income of the sampled 1,000 wealthy families reached 7,700 yuan (some US$931), almost quadrupling the city's average in the same period.
Statistics show that self-employed businessmen, private business owners and white-collar professionals accounted for 14.3 percent, 26 percent and 42.5 percent of the highest paid group, respectively.
In the well-to-do group, 73.9 percent were men and 26.1 percent were women.
Some 73 percent of the highest paid individuals were at the age of between 31 and 50.
