Wei Jianxing, chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), met with Bill Brett, the visiting Chairman of the Workers' Group of the Governing Body of the International Labor Office, in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Tuesday.
Wei, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, said the International Labor Organization (ILO) is a special body of the United Nations (UN). The ACFTU has always placed importance on cooperation with the ILO and has actively participated in various activities of the organization.
He said that in the new century, the ACFTU is ready to further strengthen cooperation with the ILO and participate in more ILO activities. By doing so, the ACFTU will contribute to the protection of workers' right and interests and to the promotion of economic and social development of the world, he said.
Wei also briefed the guests about the current political and economic situations and the operation of the ACFTU.
Brett said that China is a great country that is full of vigor and developing rapidly. He said that China has made great achievements in a short period of time. He admired the work the ACFTU has done in the protection of the rights and interests of workers.
He said, the ILO will give further support to the work of the ACFTU and strengthen cooperation with it.
Brett visited Beijing at the invitation of the ACFTU.
