Jia Qinglin, secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met here Monday evening with a U.S. delegation led by Alexander Meigs Haig Jr., former U.S. secretary of state.
As China is stepping into the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Beijing has won the bid to host the 2008 summer Olympics, the Chinese capital of Beijing will be confronted with new opportunities as well as challenge, Jia said.
Beijing hopes to further expand exchanges and cooperation with the rest of the world, he said.
Haig said that Beijing's success in bidding for the Olympics has proved that China has achieved great progress in economic and social development.
