Chinese FM Leaves for S. Africa

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan left on Saturday for South Africa after ending his three-day official visit to Ethiopia.

During his visit, Tang held talks respectively with Ethiopian President Girma Woldegiorgis, Prime Minister Meles Zanawi and Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin on the bilateral relations and future cooperation between the two countries.

In his meeting with Meles on Saturday, Tang said that the Chinese government and people treasure the friendship with Ethiopia and are ready to work together with the Ethiopian government and people to push the existing friendship and cooperation between the two countries to a new high.

Tang said China will maintain close contacts and consultation with Ethiopia and other African countries and jointly help secure a success for the next Sino-Africa Cooperation Forum.

China would further strengthen its cooperation with Ethiopia inthe areas of human resource development and capacity building, added Tang.

Meles hailed the achievement has been reached in the past bilateral cooperation, hoping the two sides to further explore newareas and new modalities for closer cooperation.

Tang, who arrived here on Thursday, also delivered a speech on Friday in Addis Ababa spelling out the Chinese government policy on Africa.
