Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and his British counterpart Jack Straw exchanged congratulatory messages Tuesday to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level between their two nations.
Tang said in his message that China-Britain relations have made "tremendous" progress over the past 30 years, particularly in recent years "enjoying all-around development in various areas and at all levels."
Looking to the new century, Tang said that the strengthening of cooperation between China and Britain promises broad prospects.
Tang also promised to work together with Straw for the constant advancement of bilateral ties.
For his part, Straw assured Tang of Britain's continuing resolve to work closely with China on matters of mutual concern.
"I am delighted to note that our relationship continues to grow in strength and warmth and would like to assure you of our continuing resolve to work closely with the People's Republic of China on Matters of mutual concern," he said.
China and Britain upgraded their diplomatic links to the ambassadorial level on March 13, 1972.
