Chinese Top Legislator Meets Greek PM

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), met in Beijing on Tuesday with Constantine Simitis, prime minister of Greece.

Both said they were pleased to witness a good momentum in the development of bilateral relations and were keen to promote cooperation and exchanges in such areas as economics, culture and archeological exploration.

Speaking of parliamental exchanges between China and Greece, Lisaid inter-parliamentary contacts constitute an important component part of bilateral relations, and the NPC is willing to further cooperate with the Greek parliament on boosting bilateral ties.

Simitis reiterated that Greece adheres to its one China policy, pays close attention to the growth of its relations with China, and is ready to increase its cooperation with the Chinese side in culture, archaeology, maritime shipping, agriculture, tourism and other fields.

With both countries due to host the Olympic Games, Simitis said, Greece expects further exchanges of expertise with China in this regard.
