Xu Shousheng, deputy secretary of the Gansu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), was appointed acting governor of the province on Monday.
Xu, 53, was appointed at the 25th session of the Standing Committee of the 10th Gansu Provincial People's Congress held in Lanzhou, the provincial capital.
The session also accepted the resignation of Lu Hao, former governor of Gansu Province.
Xu is a native of Rudong County of east China's Jiangsu Province. He joined the CPC in 1973.
Between 1992 and 2001, Xu was vice mayor, mayor of Lianyungang City of Jiangsu, and secretary of the CPC Committee of Suqian City of Jiangsu.
He became a member of the Standing Committee of the Gansu Provincial CPC Committee in 2001 and deputy governor of the province in 2003.
Lu, 59, became governor of Gansu Province in 2001.
