A Concert dedicated to the music of Chopin is scheduled for Saturday at Shanghai Concert Hall.
The show, the fourth in a series on Chopin, features Edward Wolanin performing such programs as "Polonaise in F Minor," "Four Mazurkas," "Grand Polonaise in E," nocturnes and sonatas.
Born in southeastern Poland in 1961, Wolanin began his studies at the Warsaw Academy of Music under professor Jan Ekier and later under professor Bronislawa Kawalla.
Wolanin is a laureate of numerous music competitions. In 1985, he earned the honor of best Polish pianist at the International Chopin Music competition. In 1989, he won the first prize at the Third European Chopin Competition in Darmstadt, Germany.
He also has performed in the US, Japan, Nigeria, Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq and Vienna.
With cellist Tomasz Strahl, Wolanin recorded a complete set of all piano and cello concertos by Chopin for the Japanese Pony Canion Company.
His repertoire encompassed more than 40 symphonic piano concertos.
