Shopping and the arts top Web list

Shanghai residents are more enthusiastic about shopping, theater and art than people in other parts of China, judging by their Internet searches.

Their favorite TV series is "Prison Break," while what concerns them most in their daily life is education at work and part-time jobs, according to a list compiled by Google focusing on local residents' search habits in the past year.

"Compared to other cities, the Shanghainese pay more attention to shopping and other consumer information, and they like to look for practical information online," said Google China.

People in Beijing are more interested in political issues and personalities.

Residents in Shanghai seem less interested in online entertainment such as watching movies or listening to music than those in other Chinese cities, except for playing games, which is one thing they all have in common.

The most popular search in the city last year was for an online map Website - www.ddmap.com.

A government-run transport information site also ranked highly, a reflection of concerns on the city's transport system.
