Yuan Chunqing, born in 1952, is a native of Hanshou, Hunan Province. He joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1971 and earned an "on-the-job" Doctor's Degree.
Oct. 1971 - Oct. 1975: Official of Hanshou County Public Security Bureau.
Oct. 1975 - Feb. 1977: Official of Changde Public Security Bureau in Hunan Province.
Feb. 1977 - Jan. 1980: Studied at Peking University.
Jan. 1980 - Jun. 1984: Official of the Department of Schools of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC).
Jun. 1984 - May 1985: Head of the Students' Federation Office under the Department of Schools of the CYLC Central Committee.
May 1985 - Mar. 1987: Vice director of the Department of Schools of the CYLC Central Committee.
Mar. 1987 - Dec. 1992: Director of the Department of Schools of the CYLC Central Committee, member of 12th CYLC Central Committee, and received a Master’s Degree in Law from China University of Political Science and Law.
Dec. 1992 - Sep. 1997: Secretary of the Secretariat of the CYLC Central Committee.
Sep. 1997 - Mar. 2001: Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee for Discipline Inspection and Secretary-General of the CPC Central Committee for Discipline Inspection.
Mar. 2001 - Jan. 2004: Vic secretary of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee, and earned an "on-the-job" Doctor's Degree in theoretical economics at Peking University.
Jan. 2004 – Vice secretary of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee and concurrently secretary of the CPC Xi'an Municipal Committee and chairman of the Standing Committee of the Xi'an Municipal People's Congress.
On June 1, 2006, he was appointed acting governor of Shaanxi Province.
He is an alternate member of 16th CPC Central Committee.
In January 2008, he was elected governor of Shaanxi Province.
