Youngsters Design Views on Web

Yi Changhua, a senior at Shanghai Fishery University walked away with the 5,000-yuan (US$602) first prize at an English language Web page designing contest related to this week's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings in town.

More than 90 local residents entered the contest, designing English-language Websites introducing the APEC meetings, with six contestants making it to yesterday's finals held at Sunflower English Village in Luxun Park.

The five runners-up each took home 800 yuan for their efforts. Sites were judged on proper language, originality, content, technology and overall effect. The judges' panel, which was made up of local IT professionals and English experts, also considered an English language video description of the site that each designer had to submit.

"My Website consisted of five parts, three about APEC and two about Shanghai," said Yi. "I hope my Website can help more people know about APEC and Shanghai."

The six sites will be put on a English learning Website: (www.yeworld.net).
