Chinese Scientists Reach Northernmost Town

The Chinese team of expedition to the Arctic region Monday arrived at the northernmost town on earth.

Located at 78.55 north in latitude, the town Ny-alesund is only 100 km from Longyearbyen, the capital of the Svalbard Islands.

Ny-alesund, first developed by coal mining, is now a "scientific city", with seven countries setting up scientific research stations here.

The Chinese scientist's expedition came here to conduct comparative research on establishing China's first scientific research station in the arctic region.
