Chairman of Tibet Autonomous Region.
Qiangba Puncog, of the Tibetan ethnic group, is a native of Changdu, Tibet Autonomous Region. Born in May 1947, he started work in October 1970 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in May 1974. He graduated with a major in Machine Manufacturing from the Mechanical Engineering Department of Chongqing University.
Oct. 1970 – Apr.1972: Employed in agricultural machinery factory in Changdu, Tibet Autonomous Region.
Apr. 1972 – Oct. 1975: Student majoring in Machine Manufacturing at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Chongqing University.
Oct. 1975.10 – Mar. 1979: Technician and then director of the farming machinery plant under the Agricultural Machinery Administration of Changdu.
Mar. 1979 – Oct. 1980: Deputy director of the Agricultural Machinery Administration of Changdu.
Oct. 1980 – Oct. 1983: Secretary of CPC Bomi County Committee, Tibet Autonomous Region (Sept. 1981 – Oct. 1982: Trained at the Central Party School).
Oct. 1983- Nov. 1992: Vice commissioner of Changdu prefectural government, Tibet
Nov. 1992 – Jun. 1995: Deputy secretary of CPC Shannan Prefectural Committee; commissioner of Shannan prefectural government, Tibet.
Jun. 1995 – Nov. 1997: Secretary of CPC Shannan Prefectural Committee.
Nov. 1997 – May 1998: Secretary of CPC Lhasa Municipal Committee, Tibet.
May 1998 – Jan. 2003: Standing Committee member of the CPC Tibet Regional Committee and concurrently secretary of CPC Lhasa Municipal Committee.
Jan. 2003 – Apr. 2003: Vice secretary and then executive vice secretary of the CPC Tibet Regional Committee and concurrently secretary of CPC Lhasa Municipal Committee.
Apr. 2003 – May 2003: Executive vice secretary of the CPC Tibet Regional Committee.
Since May 2003: Chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region government, and concurrently executive vice secretary of the CPC Tibet Regional Committee.
He is an alternate member of the 16th CPC Central Committee.
