The taxi service in Shanghai will challenge that of Tokyo and Berlin, cities leading the world in this field, during the 10th Five-Year Plan (2001-2005), said Yang Changhai, director of the Shanghai Taxi Administration.
According to statistics at the end of last year, the 40,000 taxis in the city take 2 million passenger trips a day.
Yang said starting last year, the administration laid more emphasis on improving services.
Under the administration's plan, the whole business will be upgraded this year with improvements in vehicle types, equipment, management and services.
