In this new book, A History of Contemporary Chinese Art: 1990-1999, Lu Peng depicts the changes of artistic thinking, language style and history in the Chinese mainland at the end of the 20th century.
In the book, the writer tries to find the reasons for the creation of art in the 1990s from the angles of politics, economy, society, culture and even fashion. He also examines the fields of history, philosophy and society.
In a sense, the book is a social-artistic work. It is the sequel to A History of Modern Chinese Art: 1979-1989. Compared to the latter, this book emphasizes the political and economic aspects behind the creation of new art.
At the same time, the author speaks of the internationalization effect on the creation of new art in the transition from the 1980s to the 1990s.
In the chapters Two-Year Exhibition in Guangzhou and New Chinese Art After 1989, the writer introduces the background to the Chinese art market.
