Culture
The 2002 China Qufu International Confucius Festival in September 2002 attracted international guests to QufuCity, the birthplace of the ancient Chinese educator and philosopher in ShandongProvince, east China. Cao Zhi, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, helped open the ceremonies to honor Confucius on his 2553rd birthday.
The Fifth Beijing International Tourism and Cultural Festival in Beijing in September 2002 featured folk artists from 46 countries and regions in a Saturday parade down Ping'an Avenue, a major thoroughfare in downtown Beijing.

Over 500 experts, scholars and other travel industry personnel from all over the world attended the conference. Francesco Frangialli, secretary-general of the World Tourism Organization, was among those who addressed the conference.
