More university students are taking part-time jobs in foreign fast-food chains like KFC and Macdonald's, finding them good training places for full-time work, the Youth Post reported Thursday.
At Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), 34 percent of service employees are undergraduates, all working on an hourly basis, according to the Shanghai KFC Co.
Most undergraduates preferred to work at KFC on weekends or during winter and summer holidays for four to seven hours a day on average. Students get paid five yuan (US$0.65)per hour, while they can earn 25 yuan per hour as tutors.
"We want to work in a strict, standardized and highly-efficient environment and those multinational fast-food chains are the right choice,"said an undergraduate working at KFC.
"It is the best training for our future job, and we should choose the multinational companies like KFC and Macdonald's as our first part-time job."
"I began with the basic work in KFC such as collecting money, making hamburgers and frying chickens," he said. "I felt bored and tired at first, but became more capable after a while."
Many university students are proud of their working experience at KFC or Macdonald's.
After the part-time job ended, many undergraduates asked employers for evaluation reports, which were very useful in their job-hunting,said a KFC restaurant manager in Shanghai.
