According to local officials, more than 300,000 Beijing parents have taken courses in five major community schools, which are exclusively run for parents to help improve their performance in family education.
Xiao Yu, a young parent living in Dongcheng District, has been attending the classes in a nearby parent school regularly to learn how to educate today’s children.
“My child is starting to reason independently and is starting to have his own judgment, so how to keep my child on the right track has become a priority concern for me, and I have a lot to learn in this area,” Xiao said.
“Through study, many parents have begun to educate their children in a more logical manner and draw less upon experience,” noted Yuan Ansheng, director of the Beijing Family Education Research Institute.
The courses for the parents mainly cover family education, psychology, and nutrition.
According to statistics, there so far exist 15 types of parent schools in Beijing, whose attendants range from children’s parents to their grandparents, from new couples to pregnant women.
