Geographical Location Situated on the west bank of the Jiaozhou Bay, the Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone (QETDZ) is about 24 kilometers to the city proper across the sea. The Zone accesses downtown Qingdao through the 66-kilometer expressway that runs around the Jiaozhou Bay and by means of sea routes such as ferries and speedboats.
Communication and Transportation Harbor As one of the largest five foreign trade ports of China, Port of Qingdao was first built in 1892, now consisting of 15 wharves with 73 berths, 31 of which are capable of handling 10,000-ton or above ships. At present, it has trade exchanges with over 450 ports of more than 130 countries and regions in the world. For container transport, the port has opened 16 international truck lines and nearly 50 domestic feeders with over 300 liners to all over the world every month and 2.6 million TEUs in 2001. Besides there is the new continental Eurasian Bridge linking Qingdao to Europe for transit transport.
Airport QETDZ is 53 kilometers away from Qingdao International Airport, which operates 65 international and domestic air routes with over 300 flights per week undertaken by 13 airlines from home and abroad, including 9 international routes.
Landway The zone boasts convenient communication with the Jiaozhou-Huangdao Railway and the expressway around the Jiaozhou Bay.
Industrial Structure In the QETDZ industrial framework of electronics, household electric appliances, building materials, petrochemicals, machinery and pharmaceuticals has been shaped. The zone divides itself into several functional areas like the administration and business center, the international trading, warehousing and processing industry, heavy and chemical industrial area, the harbor-related industrial park and the effective agricultural park.
