Overview Taiyuan Economic & Technological Development Zone (TETDZ) is situated in south Taiyuan, the capital city of Shanxi Province. The following divisions are planned: food processing; medicine and electronics; machinery, light industry and packaging; refined chemicals, agricultural produce processing, bonded zone, storage and warehousing, and the center will be comprehensively developed in terms of trade, commerce, finance, services and recreational facilities.
Climate Taiyuan falls into the continental temperate monsoon climatic zone with distinct four seasons. The average annual temperature is 9.5°C, annual rainfall 464 millimeters. The average elevation of the city is 770 meters above sea level.
Communication and Transportation Road Both Datong-Yuncheng Highway that traverses the provinces from the north to the south and State Highway No. 208 run through the zone. To the east of TETDZ runs State Highway No. 307 and Taiyuan-Yuci First-rate Motorway. To the north is the city ring expressway under planning. And the entrance to Taiyuan-Shijiazhuang-Beijing Expressway is only 2 kilometers away from the zone.
Railway Taiyuan, as the transportation hub of the whole province, extends in the north to Beijing-Taiyuan and the northern part of Datong-Yuncheng Railways, links in the east with Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan Railway, and in the south joins with the southern part of Datong-Yuncheng and Taiyuan-Jiaozuo Railways.
Airport TETDZ is only 2 kilometers away from Taiyuan Airport, an alternate airport for Beijing International Airport and also one of the largest airports in North China. There are currently 43 domestic and international air routes in operation.
Industrial Structure Five major industries have come into shape in the zone, namely being electronics product manufacturing and electrical appliance, bio-pharmaceuticals, coal-based chemicals and new materials, high-tech culture and farming, and innovative food and beverage processing industry.
Investment Priorities TETDZ encourages future investment in clean fuels, environmental protection technologies, and coal-based chemicals.
