Purchased by Shanghai Airlines, a Boeing 737-800 arrived at Shanghai's Hongqiao Airport Sunday afternoon.
Longer than the old 737 generation, the new model is able to accommodate 164 passengers and is equipped with TV sets. It is expected to be in service from the National Day holiday starting October 1.
The new Boeing flights will be added to hot tourist routes from Shanghai to northeastern China's Harbin, the southernmost cities of Sanya and Haikou, and southwest China's Kunming, said Shanghai Airlines sources.
Shanghai Airlines has six 737-700 Boeings.
