China Earned More from Tourism Sector
Figures released Tuesday by the State Tourism Administration show China earned US$ 2.7 billion in foreign exchange from the tourism sector during the period, up 11.84 percent on an annual basis.
The number of tourists from some Asian and European countries made double-digit growth during the first two months, despite a dip by those from Thailand, Indonesia and France.
Tourists from Korea, Mongolia and Russia Increased
Among the growth countries, the number of tourists from Korea jumped by 45 percent, Mongolia by 29.58 percent, Russia by 24.78 percent and the Philippines by 21.36 percent.
China Receives Over 80m Overseas Tourists in 2000
The National Tourism Administration disclosed Tuesday that around 83.49 million people from overseas visited China in the year 2000, up 14.7 percent over 1999.
Tourism income last year exceeded US$16.2 billion, up 15 percent. And domestic tourism income was 317.5 billion yuan (about US$38.1 billion), up 12 percent.
