Yuanying Pagoda in Changli County of Hebei Province
Located in the county town of Changli near Qinhuangdao City, the pagoda is a thirteen-storey octagonal structure of thirty meters high. Though the pagoda is typical of the multi-eaved style of the Liao and Kin dynasties, the sculptures and ornaments on the first storey are different from those on other pagodas of the same period. Instead of the usual Buddhist images of Buddha, bodhisattvas, heavenly kings, guardians, flying apsarases and so on, they are multistorey buildings, city gates, balconies and passages, resembling a heavenly palace. It is a rear example among ancient buildings in China.
