The pagoda, located in the northeastern comer of Yanzhou, was built in the Song Dynasty.
The octagonal, thirteen-storeyed brick structure is fifty-four meters high. Its main feature is a smaller pagoda on top. The seven-storey main body of the pagoda is sturdy and gigantic, with a winding staircase inside. The smaller six-storey pagoda on top tapers sharply, making it look like a steeple. It is not clear whether this was the original design or a renovated one.
