According to experts, Shanghai is predicted to receive 2 million oversea tourists this year, which hits historically high, eastday.com reported today.
In January, Shanghai received 125,000 oversea visitors, a year-on-year increase of 17.7 percent. There were 93,700 foreign visitors, increasing by 10,000 from the same period last year, with the foreign exchange revenue on tourism having a year-on-year increase of 20 percent.
According to the Jiefang Daily, Shanghai received 1.814 million oversea tourists last year, with the Forex revenue of US$1.61 billion. At the beginning of this year, a large-scale promotion fair of Shanghai was opened in the United States and Japan, which was a big attraction to foreign visitors.
This year, the tourism department will take the chance of APEC opened in Shanghai this October to extend the tourism market, especially promoting Shanghai's specialized tourism goods.
