According to the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), the European Union (EU) plans to remove this October the 66 percent anti-dumping duties imposed on China-made energy-saving light bulbs. Chinese energy-saving light bulbs are 20 percent more energy-efficient than traditional ones and assist EU countries in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
"The duties have made the energy-saving light bulb's price increase by 66%. This is the major reason why the EU has decided to lift the anti-dumping duties," an expert said. The duties have caused the exports of Chinese energy-saving light bulbs to drop by over 70 percent in the EU market, once the major overseas market for Chinese light bulb makers.
Reportedly, EU members have passed a resolution that requires every household replace traditional incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient fluorescent lights to save energy. This resolution stimulates the EU to cancel the anti-dumping duties.
