Shanghai-based technology company Telegent Systems has made it possible to watch TV on mobile phones free of charge via the company's recently developed mobile TV simulation chips.
Industry analysts said consumer demands for the mobile TV market would peak in 2008 with the hosting of the Beijing Olympic Games.
Telegent Systems' new technology will help domestic mobile phone manufactures to overtake their foreign counterparts.
The simulation technology will start an innovative upsurge in China's telecom industry, said Chen Yuping, an official with the Telecoms Research Institute of the Ministry of Information Industry.
Relevant investigation predicted that the scale of China's mobile TV market would reach 2.3 billion yuan and more than double to 5.9 billion yuan in 2010.
World leading TV audience rating service company AGB Nielsen predicted that the number of TV viewers for Beijing Olympic Games would witness a sharp rise from that of the Athens Games in 2004 and hit another record high.
Industry analysts regard mobile TV as another growht area after photo phones and music phones. The Olympic Games will be a golden opportunity for its growth.
