Zhang Chongguang was born in Shanghai in 1957 though his family is originally from Shandong Province. Zhang attended the affiliated school of Beijing Foreign Studies University in 1970 to begin learning Spanish, and he studied Spanish language and literature at the National University of Colombia in 1987. He has been working at the Foreign Languages Press in Beijing since 1982. Zhang also worked at China’s embassy in Peru from 1992 to 1996. He was recognized as a Senior Translator in 2006.
