Mount Taishan

Mount Taishan, also known as Daizong in ancient times, is a renowned mountain located in China's Shandong Province. It stretches approximately 200 kilometers from east to west and 50 kilometers from north to south, with its highest peak, Jade Emperor Peak, reaching an altitude of 1,532.7 meters. Mount Taishan is characterized by its towering cliffs, scenic vistas, secluded valleys, and vast expanses, earning it the title of the "Greatest of the Five Sacred Mountains".

Mount Taishan holds a significant place in the history of Chinese civilization and boasts rich geographical, historical, and cultural connotations. Located between the Yellow River to the west and the East China Sea to the east, it features nu- merous spots where visitors can have a gorgeous view of a sea of clouds, the sunrise, sunset glows, and a golden belt of the Yellow River. Historically, Mount Taishan was revered for its majestic and legendary power to lead straight to heaven, and emperors of successive dynasties performed worship and sac- rificial rituals here to pray for prosperity, peace, and stability. Culturally, Mount Taishan enjoyed the coexistence of Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism. There are around 30 temples and palaces and over 100 ancient sites. The mountain was a favorite destination among ancient scholars and poets, such as Confucius, Sima Qian, Li Bai, and Du Fu, who wrote memo- rable literary pieces at the top of the mountain. In 1987, Mount Taishan was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a cultural and natural site, and in 2006, it was designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
