"Hu Jintao's report mentioned enhancing the development of agricultural technology. That really echoes the farmers' voices," CPC delegate Wang Leyi said. "Only by adopting the advanced technology can farmers really shake off poverty and build up a fortune. This is the truth I now understand from my long career as a Party Branch Secretary of a village."
Wang Leyi, secretary of Sanyuanzhu Village CPC branch, Shouguang City of Shandong Province is called a farmer-inventor by many people because he initiated a program in 1989 to grow vegetables in plastic sheds called solar greenhouses during the winter. This invention ended the history of vegetable shortages in northern China.
In order to benefit more farmers, Wang decided to popularize the technology. He went to 11 provinces to share his invention for free, covering tens of thousands of miles. Now there are over 150 farmers from Sanyuanzhu Village in 30 provinces and municipalities across the country guiding the vegetable growing in solar greenhouses.
Now Sanyuanzhu Village has 27,000 hectares of solar greenhouses. Wang Leyi says that although he is now 66 years old, he will still work for another decade. “Farmer-targeted preferential measures have been enhanced year by year. The agricultural technology has also been upgraded continuously. Hu's report clearly points out the direction for our farmers," Wang says.
