3 to 8 A delegation from the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) headed by Party Leader Ichiro Ozawa visited China at the invitation of the CPC. Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPC and State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan met with the delegation. Hu said that China attaches great importance to Sino-Japanese relations. The Chinese government and the CPC has been viewing and handling bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective. China's foreign policy towards Japan will continue to be one of building peaceful coexistence, long-lasting friendship, mutually beneficial cooperation, and common development. He hoped the two sides would adhere to the principles enshrined in the Sino-Japanese Joint Statement, the Sino-Japanese Joint Declaration and the Peace and Friendship Treaty. Hu also called on the two sides to take history as a mirror to guide the future and to handle the problems between the two countries properly. It is also imperative to expand cooperation and exchanges in all areas and at all levels to deepen understanding and friendship between the two peoples. He urged Japan to join hands with China to remove all political barriers and steer China-Japan relations back to the right track of healthy and stable development. The two sides should work together to write a new chapter for friendly and cooperative Sino-Japanese relations in the twenty first century.
3 to 14 A delegation from the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) of Morocco headed by Ismael Alaoui, General Secretary of the Party, visited China at the invitation of the CPC. Wu Guanzheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, met with the delegation. Wu said that relations between the two parties had become an integral part of Sino-Moroccan relations. The CPC stands ready to further strengthen cooperation with all political parties in Morocco, including the PPS. Such cooperation should be based on principles of independence, complete equality, mutual respect, and non-interference in each other's internal affairs. 16 to 23 A delegation from the South African Communist Party (SACP), headed by Blade Nzimande, Secretary General of the SACP, paid a visit to China at the invitation of the CPC. Li Changchun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, met with the delegation. Li said the CPC and the SACP each have long traditions founded on revolutionary ideologies. The CPC highly values its friendly ties with the SACP. Based on the four principles of independence, complete equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, the CPC was ready to enhance relations with the SACP and other major political parties of South Africa in an effort to push forward bilateral ties between the two countries.
