CPC diplomacy dossier: August 2006

1 to 7  A delegation from the Japan-China 21st Century Committee of the Japanese Democratic Party, headed by Nakagawa Masaharu, Chairman of the Diet Affairs Committee, visited China at the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC.

4 to 16  A CPC delegation led by Zhang Zhijun, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, visited Australia, New Zealand, and the Independent State of Samoa. Invitations had been extended by the Labor Party of Australia, the Labour Party of New Zealand, and the Human Rights' Protection Party of Samoa.

14 to 26  A delegation from the African National Congress of South Africa, headed by Mr. Ngoako Abel Ramatlhodi, Member of the National Executive Committee and Head of the Institute of Policy Study, visited China at the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC.

19 to 23  Doi takako, Former President of the Social Democratic Party of Japan, visited China at the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC and met with State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan.

22 to 26  General Secretary Nong Duc Manh of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam paid an official good-will visit to China at the invitation of Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the CPC and President of the People's Republic of China. Hu and Manh agreed to carry forward the traditional friendship, enhance mutual understanding, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, promote common development and push bilateral relations and all-round cooperation to new heights. The CPC and the Chinese government attach great importance to relations with Vietnam and will make joint efforts to boost bilateral ties following principles of long-term stability, good-neighborliness, friendship and all-round cooperation. Hu made a five-point proposal on boosting Sino-Vietnamese relations. Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, and Jia Qinglin, Members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, had meetings with Nong Duc Manh. The two sides also issued a Joint Statement.

23 to 30  A delegation of Federal Congress Members from the German Social Democratic Party, headed by Karin Kortmann, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, paid a visit to China at the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC.

25 Aug to 6 Sep  A delegation from the Sri Lanka People's Liberation Front headed by Bimal Niroshan Rathnayake, Member of the Central Committee, visited China at the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC.

27 Aug to 6 Sep  A delegation from the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) headed by Pany Yathotou, Member of the Political Bureau of the (LPRP) and Vice President of the National Assembly of Lao, paid a visit to China at the invitation of the CPC. Liu Qi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, met with the delegation.

27 Aug to 10 Sep   Wu Guanzheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, paid official visits to Rwanda, Madagascar, Botswana, and Gabon. Invitations had been extended by the Patriotic Front of Rwanda, the I Love Madagascar Party, the Democratic Party of Botswana, and the Democratic Party of Gabon. Wu held talks with Paul Kagame President of Rwanda, François Ngarambe General Secretary of the Patriotic Front of Rwanda, Marc Ravalomanana President of Madagascar, Razoarimihaja Solofonantenaina Chairmen of the I Love Madagascar Party, Festus Mogae President of Botswana and of the Democratic Party of Botswana, El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba President of Gabon, and Simplice Guedet-Manzéla General Secretary of the Democratic Party of Gabon. Wu said that further developing cooperation with African countries was fundamental to China's foreign policy. China is ready to work with African countries to carry forward traditions of friendship, enhance mutual trust, deepen cooperation for mutual benefit, and push forward a new Sino-African strategic partnership. The CPC was ready to enhance exchanges and cooperation with all parties to push forward sound and stable relations.

28 Aug to 9 Sep  A CPC delegation led by Liu Yunshan, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the CPC, paid visits to Pakistan, the Philippines, and to the Republic of Korea (ROK). Invitations had been extended by the Pakistan Muslim League, the LAKAS-Christian Muslim Democrats (LAKAS-CMD) of the Philippines, the Uri Party and the Grand National Party of the ROK. Liu also attended the Fourth International Conference of Asian Political Parties held in Seoul, ROK. In Pakistan, Liu held talks with President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, and with Raja Zaffarul Haq Chairman of the Pakistan Muslim League. In the Philippines, Liu met with President Gloria Arroyo, with Manuel B. Villar Jr. Speaker of the Senate, and with Jose De Venecia President of LAKAS-CMD and Speaker of the Congress. In the ROK, Liu met with Lim Chae-Jung Speaker of the Parliament, with Kim Jae-Sup Uri Party Chairman, and with Park Guen-hye leader of the Grand National Party.

29 Aug to 10 Sep  A Chama Cha Mapinduzi delegation from the United Republic of Tanzania, paid a visit to China at the invitation of CPC.  

30 Aug to 8 Sep  A delegation from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), headed by Gautam Deb, Member of the Secretariat of West Bengal and Minister of State in the Housing and Health Department, visited China at the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC.
