Oxford Student Teaches English

George Bailey, a student at Oxford University, teaches English with the Longman Success English Training Center in Shenzhen while on a break from his studies, Shenzhen Daily reported Friday.

Bailey finds his experience with Chinese students quite exciting.

"I would say that my students are among the most avid and diligent students anywhere in the world."

Bailey offers his students as much support as he can.

"You might think students get a lot of help at Oxford. It is just not true. Students mostly study by themselves, although they pay a lot of money," he said.

Bailey usually goes out of his way to help students. He teaches his small class of four basic pronunciations through to difficult levels of reading and writing. More importantly, he teaches students to be self-disciplined in studying.

"I find the most effective way to teach students is to help them help themselves," he said. He encourages students to ask questions, express themselves in English and rewards them for progress."

His motto as a teacher is to foster an environment for learning.
