Swan Lake by English National Ballet to debut in Beijing
Adjust font size:

The English National Ballet (ENB) will perform its own version of "Swan Lake" at China Century Theater in Beijing from Wednesday to Sunday as part of the city's international ballet week.

The ENB version of the classic Swan Lake, rewritten by choreographer Derek Deane to Tchaikovsky's score, changes the ending from tragic to happy, which may surprise Beijing ballet-lovers.

Deane's lavish production of Swan Lake premiered in 2000 as a re-working of his hugely successful arena version which was performed at the Royal Albert Hall earlier this year.

The international ballet week, part of the First International Performance Season, opened at the China National Center for Performing Arts in central Beijing, highlighting international ballet stars from China National Ballet, the Royal Ballet, Opera National de Paris and Hamburg Ballet.

The international ballet week will feature four productions of classical ballet, including Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet.
