A team of secondary school students has won a first gold, two silvers and two bronzes for Hong Kong at the 43rd International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Glasgow, United Kingdom.
The Hong Kong team, led by Dr. Kin-yin Li of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, returned to Hong Kong Thursday afternoon after attending the IMO, which is an international mathematics competition for secondary school students.
Yu Hok-pun, from Secondary Six of SKH Bishop Baker Secondary School, won gold medal. Leung Wai-ying and Cheng Kei-tsi won silver medals and Chao Khek-lun and Ip Chi-ho won bronze awards.
This year's IMO, held from July 19 to July 30 and participated by 84 teams of up to six members each from various countries and regions.
Among the 84 participating teams, Chinese mainland ranked top, Russia and United States got the second and third respectively. Hong Kong ranked the 24th.
Since 1988, Hong Kong students have been taking part in the IMO through the joint effort with the IMO Hong Kong Committee.
