Shanghai is getting another major annual art event, one more sign of the continued growth of its cultural scene.
The Shanghai Spring Salon will debut on June 28 at the Everbright Convention and Exhibition Center, running until July 2, according to organizers.
We aim to make this event as important as the Shanghai Biennale and Shanghai Art Fair, said Qiu Ruimin, curator of the salon and president of the Shanghai Oila Painting and Sculpture Institute. The art fair is an annual event, while the Biennale is held every two years.
"The art market in our country is still in its infancy," Qiu said. "There are many vibrant and potential young and middle-aged artists. While many of them are still floating away from the mainstream, we just want to create a salon to serve as a platform for them."
The event will not only act as a place for artists to sell their works, but will also give them a chance to promote themselves.
"We plan to print 1,000 brochures for every artist in attendance," Qiu said.
"A Webstie for the saloon is under preparation so Web surfers can obtain detailed information," Qiu said.
