HK City University to Honor Four Distinguished Persons
City University of Hong Kong (CityU) announced Wednesday the conferment of honorary degrees upon four distinguished individuals in November this year.

The university will honor David Eldon, chairman of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, Henry Tang, secretary for commerce, industry and technology of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, Andrew Yao Chi-chih, a world-renowned computing scientist at Princeton University who is also the first Chinese recipient for the A.M. Turing Award, and Zhang Junsheng, the chancellor of Zhejiang University in Chinese mainland.

The university issued a press release saying that the award is in recognition of the persons' contribution to knowledge, the development of the university, and the well-being of society.

Eldon and Tang will be given the Honorary Doctor's Degrees of Business Administration and Laws respectively, while Yao and Zhang will be both bestowed the Honorary Doctor of Science.

The conferment will take place on Nov. 12, 2003 at the university's 18th Congregation.
