A program aimed at popularizing ballet in China has attracted lots of people to a performance of the Central Ballet Troupe in Beijing. This continues the increasing access to arts activities people nowadays enjoy.
In the dance studio, ballet dancers exercised assiduously as spectators watched by. Some observers even took the opportunity to take a few photos. Many parents took their children to the performance, hoping to cultivate an appreciation of the art form.
"I think ballet is good for the children's comprehensive development," said a Beijing citizen.
Time passed quickly with the graceful movements of the ballet dancers. After the exercise, Zhao Ruheng, president of the Central Ballet Troupe, briefed the audience on the history of ballet, as well as the standards used to select ballet dancers. She also made an on-the-spot assessment of the physical condition of a five-year-old girl. The activities not only attract Chinese people, but also some foreigners.
The ballet dancers also gave the viewers a special treat by rehearsing parts of a new ballet play entitled Red Lanterns High Up. This production is due to open in August.
