Art, Science Find Common Ground in Shanghai

While making the world a better place to live in, digital technology also provides a new dimension for visual artists. In Shanghai, an exhibition of high-tech fine arts opened at Shanghai University to display works of the frontier art form.

The most eye-catching item at the two-week exhibition is this traditional Chinese painting. The lake is filled in with the reflection cast by a basin of water. By blowing into the straw, spectators can cause ripples in the lake.

A work is produced with 3-D digital technology. The fast-moving figures give viewers a dazzling visual experience through the varying perspectives.

Some abstractionist classics were painted by a robot from Greece, who even comes to the show. His inspiration comes from the changing light and temperature.

The combination of traditional art technique and modern high technology is revolutionizing the realm of fine arts.

In 2002, Shanghai University founded China's first discipline of digital fine arts. The exhibition is a showcase for nine innovative art institutes from across the world.
