Former HK CE Receive Honorary Doctorate

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology awarded honorary doctorates to Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Tung Chee Hwa and two other pre-eminent leaders in Hong Kong Friday.

At the 14th Congregation of the University, the three recipients were conferred honorary doctorates in recognition of their academic achievements and social contributions.

Tung Chee Hwa received the Doctor of Social Sciences honoris causa. As the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Tung successfully implemented the "One Country, Two Systems" concept during his term.

Hau L Lee, professor of Operations, Information, and Technology at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in America was awarded Doctor of Engineering honoris causa. He is also Director of the Stanford Global Supply Chain Management Forum.

Nobel Laureate in Chemistry in 2000 Alan G MacDiarmid was conferred Doctor of Science honoris causa. He is currently a teaching professor at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Texas at Dallas in America.
