Guangdong Province is asking universities and colleges to set up a warning mechanism to prevent suicide and harmful incidents being committed by students with psychological problems.
A guideline from the local government asks them to offer better psychological health education as well as timely, effective and high-quality consultations.
If students are found to have serious psychological difficulties they should be sent to hospital for professional treatment.
The guideline comes against a backdrop of more student suicides and incidents where they physically harm their fellow university students because of psychological problems.
