Movie superstar Pu Cunxin has become the first spokesperson for Shenzhen's HIV/AIDS campaign, the municipal center for disease prevention and control (CDC) said yesterday. 　

Pu features in four sets of print and TV ads for AIDS awareness which will be seen in Shenzhen soon. He is presently the nation's HIV/AIDS Prevention spokesman but this is the first time he's taken on the role for an individual city. 　

Pu, wearing a red ribbon, the international symbol of the fight against AIDS, plays basketball to promote a healthy lifestyle and advises people against drug abuse in one set of ads. In others he's a young man learning about HIV/AIDS through a laptop, a worker wearing a safety helmet symbolizing a condom and a policeman preventing improper behavior. 　　

"Shenzhen is a young city and young people should play a more important role in preventing AIDS. I'm glad that I can do something for the AIDS prevention campaign in Shenzhen," said Pu after receiving a letter of appointment from Cheng Jinquan, director of Shenzhen CDC. 　　

Cheng said China's AIDS prevention campaign had entered a critical stage and Shenzhen was no exception. "The recruitment of Pu Cunxin (in the campaign) will greatly boost AIDS awareness in the city," added Cheng. 　

Shenzhen faces a tough task preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS with a huge floating migrant population. Since it reported its first HIV case in 1992 Shenzhen now has 1,689 HIV patients. Of these 329 developed into full-blown AIDS by June 30, 2006. Last year the city reported one HIV/AIDS patient for every 20,000 people.
