Veteran Chinese female singer Tsai Chin has joined Universal Music Group to record new albums and hold a world concert tour at the end of this year.
The record industry is widely threatened by online downloading among young consumers in recent years.
However, Tsai Chin's target consumers focus on upper-class and middle-aged listeners who enjoy buying authentic records.
The large sales volume for fellow veteran singer Hacken Lee's latest album released by Universal Music earlier this year proved its strategy right.
Universal Music Group announced it will invest HK$3 million for Tsai Chin to record two studio albums as well as records of her previous classic concerts.
The singer, who last graced the Hong Kong Coliseum stage five years ago, will return to the stage on January 23 and 24.
In addition to Hong Kong, Tsai's world tour will cover Chiniese mainland, Taiwan, southeast Asia, Australia and North America. It kicks off this New Year's Eve in Shanghai.
